On March 13, 2019, 9 one one call center operators received distressing plea for assistance from a caller who only identified herself as Keyona. But the urgency in her voice somehow got lost in translation, and the police left after knocking on her door and getting no answer. Hours later they would receive another call from the same residence where they would then discover the bodies of Cherletta Baber-Bay and Keyona Griffin inside. The murder of Keyona and the slaying of her aunt put in motion a chain of tragic events that ultimately ended in the deaths of two other individuals.
